Where the extension stops

- The extension is Chrome or Edge only. Tactiq's help centre says it works when you join Zoom in the browser, not inside the Zoom desktop app. Desktop apps are the job of its separate Mac app.
- Captions have to be on. The transcript is built from the platform's own live captions. On Zoom that means the host must have automated captions enabled.
- No captions, no transcript. A phone call on speaker or a conversation in the room has no caption stream for an extension to read.
- The Mac app is in beta. Tactiq for macOS captures system audio the way Nod does, and its help centre has setup guides for the Zoom and Teams desktop apps and Slack huddles. If you try it, that is the fair comparison with Nod.
What Nod does instead
Nod captures the audio your Mac is already playing, so it does not care which app the call is in or whether anyone turned captions on. It runs its own transcription in 35 languages and writes a structured summary. Capture is local on your Mac; transcription isn't. Each audio segment is sent through a European proxy to hosted transcription, and Nod discards it when the text returns. No model trains on the data. Groq may retain transient error or abuse logs for up to 30 days unless Zero Data Retention is enabled. Only the transcript and summary are saved by Nod, encrypted at rest in the EU (AWS eu-west-1). Where Tactiq still wins
Price and reach. Tactiq has a real free plan (10 transcripts a month), its paid plans start lower than Nod's, and because it is an extension it works on any computer that runs Chrome or Edge, Windows included. The extension stores no audio either, so on that point the two agree.
It also lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 on every plan. Nod has neither. If you live in Google Meet in a browser and want something free, Tactiq is a good answer and we would not talk you out of it.

Frequently asked questions
Does Tactiq work with the Zoom desktop app?
Not through the extension: Tactiq's help centre says it only works when you join Zoom in Chrome or Edge. Tactiq's macOS app, in beta, captures system audio and covers the Zoom desktop app. Nod works with the Zoom desktop app because it listens to your Mac rather than to a browser tab.
Does Tactiq or Nod add a bot to the meeting?
Neither. Tactiq reads captions from your browser and Nod captures your Mac's audio, so nothing joins as a participant in either case. You still need consent where recording law requires it.
Is Tactiq cheaper than Nod?
Yes. Tactiq has a free plan and lists Pro from $8 a month (USD) billed annually; Nod is $12 to $24 a month billed annually after a 14-day trial, with no free plan. Verify current pricing on both sides; ours is on the pricing page.
