AI Note Taker Alternatives, Compared Honestly

Every comparison we publish, in one place. Most pages have a section on where the other tool is the better pick, because a comparison that only ever concludes "choose us" isn't one. Nod's side stays the same throughout: a Mac app, nothing joins the call, no audio kept.

Three questions that decide most of these

Feature lists in this category look alike. The choices that actually separate the tools are fewer, and you can answer them before reading any single comparison.

  • Does anything join the call? A bot in the participant list, or an app that listens from your own computer. Several recorders now offer both, so check which one is the default.
  • What exists afterwards? A video or audio recording in someone's cloud, or text only. This decides what you have to govern, share carefully, and delete later.
  • What do you run? Nod is macOS only. If your team is on Windows, most of the tools below are the better answer and the pages say so.

Recorders that can send a bot

These are built around a recording, and most have added a bot-free desktop mode alongside the bot. The question is which one you get by default, and what is stored either way.

Bot-free by design

Nothing joins the call with any of these, so the comparison moves to what is kept, where it lives, and which platforms are covered.

Built into the meeting platform

These add no bot either. The differences are licensing (someone else's plan often decides whether you get notes at all), one silo per platform, and output that lands in the host organisation's tenant.

How we keep these accurate

Competitor details come from each vendor's own pricing, help and security pages, and the newer pages carry the date they were last checked. Plans and policies in this category change often, so treat a competitor's site as the final word on anything that decides your purchase.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the best alternative to a meeting bot?

An app that captures audio on your own device instead of joining the call. On a Mac that includes Nod, Granola and Jamie, and the desktop modes of Otter, Fireflies, tl;dv, Read AI and Notta. They differ in what they keep afterwards: Nod and Jamie delete the audio, while recorder-first tools usually keep a recording, depending on the mode and plan you choose.

  • Are these comparisons biased?

They are written by Nod, so read them that way. What we can promise is the method: competitor facts come from the vendor's own public pages, the newer pages carry the date they were checked and a section on where the other tool wins, and we'd rather send a Windows user to the right product than sell them the wrong one.

  • Does Nod work on Windows or a phone?

No. Nod is a macOS app, because capture uses native macOS audio APIs. If your team is on Windows, or you mostly need a phone recorder, several tools on this page are a better fit and the individual comparisons say which.
