What each one actually knows
ChatGPT starts every conversation from nothing about your week. That is not a flaw, it is the design: it is a general model you brief. If you paste a transcript in, it will summarise it well.
Nod's answers come from sessions it captured on your Mac, and it cites which ones. It cannot help you write a poem or debug a regex. It can tell you what you promised the customer in May.
- Where the context comes from — Nod: calls and voice notes it captured, plus the screen record if you opt in · ChatGPT: what you paste or upload into the chat.
- Breadth — Nod: your conversations only · ChatGPT: general knowledge and reasoning across everything.
- Capture — Nod: records the meeting from your Mac's audio, no bot · ChatGPT: does not join or record meetings.
- Citations — Nod: names the sessions behind an answer · ChatGPT: cites what you gave it.
They work together, and we built the plumbing
Nod's ChatGPT connector is read-only and scoped to your meetings. Once it is installed you can ask ChatGPT questions that need both halves: your call last Tuesday and everything ChatGPT already knows. It can read summaries and transcripts, and it cannot change anything in your account.
Setup is an OAuth grant you can revoke at any time. See Nod for ChatGPT, or the connectors overview.
When ChatGPT alone is the right call
If you do not need a record of your conversations, you do not need Nod. Someone who takes two calls a month and writes their own notes is well served by pasting a transcript into ChatGPT when they need one summarised.
Nod earns its place when the number of conversations passes what you can hold in your head, and when the question you want to ask spans several of them.
Frequently asked questions
Can ChatGPT record my meeting?
No. ChatGPT has no access to your Mac's audio and does not join calls. Nod captures the meeting from your Mac's system audio without a bot in the participant list, then makes it askable — including from inside ChatGPT via the connector.
Does the connector give ChatGPT access to everything?
No. The scope is read-only access to your meeting summaries and transcripts. It cannot write, delete, or change anything, and you can revoke it from authorized apps whenever you like.
Do I need ChatGPT Plus?
Check OpenAI's current plan requirements for connectors — that is their side and it changes. Nod's own Ask works on its own, without any ChatGPT subscription.
